Frequently Asked Questions

We have compiled a page of frequently asked questions to help you with any queries you might have. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any further information. We are happy to help in any way we can.

What is the difference between made-to-measure and bespoke?

Very good question and I will try to keep it brief.

With fully bespoke, we start from your body measurements and a plain piece of card. We will create your vision and the sky is the limit in terms personalising the garment. You can choose the cloth, lining and have free rein on all styling details. You can even choose your buttons and colour of the button holes if you wish. A pattern is then drafted to your individual body measurements, taking into consideration any figuration as necessary. For example, it is common for many people to have one shoulder slightly lower than the other (called a drop left or a drop right), and this is taken into consideration in the cutting process. You will have 2-3 fittings to get everything exactly right before the garment is hand finished.

With made-to-measure, you generally choose from a pre-defined selection of styling details together with your cloth and lining. From there, your suit is cut from block pattern, closest to your body measurements. Minor tweaks are then made to accommodate, for example, sleeve and trouser length. Options to personalise your garment are available, albeit more limited. We do offer a made-to-measure “semi-bespoke” service, so please contact us for a no obligation consultation.

Do you only make suits?

Not at all. Everyone assumes that bespoke tailoring is limited to suits. When creating your garment we literally start with your body measurements and a pencil so from there you can choose whatever you want!

Where will the consultation take place?

We have a wide variety of cloths at our work room in London, SW18 where you are welcome to visit and discuss your vision over a coffee or a glass of wine. Alternatively, if it is more convenient for you, Haddon is very happy to travel to your home or office in the Greater London area with a selection of cloth bunches. If you live further afield, please enquire and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. We can also hold initial consultations remotely on Zoom although would need to eventually meet you in person to take a full set of body measurements.

How long will my consultation and ordering take?

This is a good question. Like bespoke tailoring, it is completely down to the individual. We have clients that know exactly what they want and choose their styling and cloth in minutes. You can be in and out in 30 minutes! That being said we have also had clients that take a couple of hours to choose their cloth and then we move onto the styling details. We love getting to know our clients and we will always make as much time for them as they require.

What is the process?

In a nutshell, book your no obligation consultation, choose cloth, lining and styling details, get measured and leave the rest to. You will have 2-3 fittings and then the garments are all yours. You can read in more detail here.

How long does it take to make the garments?

It really depends on the garment. For a suit we aim for, but do not limit to, 6-7 weeks with 2-3 fittings. Single garments such as trousers or waistcoats can be done in a shorter time frame. Timing can be discussed prior or during your consultation. Obviously if you are looking for a head to toe hand beaded frock coat, then this will undoubtedly take a little longer…but anything is possible!

How much does it cost?

The main cost variant in a bespoke garment is the chosen cloth. Our fully bespoke 2 piece suits start at £1,995 and our semi-bespoke 2 piece suits start at £995 from our entry range cloth (all 100% wool or linen).

Please click here and complete the submission form for a quote. Remember the more detail you provide the more accurate our quote can be.

When do I pay?

We ask for a 50% deposit upon ordering and a 50% balance on collection of the garments. We are very happy to spread the cost over 3 or 4 payments and you can take the garment away on your final payment.

Why are you cheaper than Savile Row and others in the West End?

Quite simply because we do not have the extortionate shop rents to pay. Haddon has spent most of his career making and cutting for Savile Row and other tailors in the West End and is well versed in the techniques and processes. We also use Savile Row freelance finishers to help with the workload. You are quite literally getting an equivalently produced suit for a fraction of the price…and you do not have to travel into Central London! In fact, we can come to you!

Where is your cloth from?

We only use British mills for our cloth. We have a wide range including tweeds, linen, cotton, cashmere and of course pure worsted wool! You can read more about the history of our suppliers here.

I need accessories for my wedding. Can you help?

Yes. We make our own accessories such as ties, bow ties and pocket squares. When making a suit for a groom we very often make the accessories for the rest of the grooms party as well. We have even supplied pocket squares as wedding favours. Even if you have chosen your suit already, that is not a problem. Let us know what you are looking for and we will be happy to assist.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

We certainly do. They make fantastic gifts. Simply contact us to tell us how much and who you would like the gift voucher for. You can even allocate it to a certain item such as a pair of trousers, jacket, or a suit etc.

Do you do alterations?

Our main passion is bespoke. We can take on minor alterations but because we use traditional Savile Row tailoring techniques, we will most likely be more expensive than your local dry cleaner. However, do feel free to contact us and we will happily take a look for you.
